Sydney Pools

Sydney’s rocky coastline is home to a number of beautiful rockpools that are perfect for swimming, snorkeling and picnicking. Often named after famous local swimmers, or historic beaches, they are popular destinations for both residents and visitors. There are also a number of saltwater public pools located on the shoreline. While they are not as large as the ocean pools, these public facilities can still offer a great swimming experience.

In the 1920s, the tidal flow at many of Sydney’s rockpools prompted authorities to build up their size and facilities. This change was a reflection of more sanitary concerns, and an attitude towards preserving the natural rocky coastline and avoiding the encroachment of private development. The popularity of these rockpools is still reflected today by their presence on the local tourist map, but they are now seen as more of an enhancement to the rocky beach rather than a substitute.

Whether you are a seasoned swim-goer or just want to soak up the summer vibes, these sidney pools will make you feel like you’re in the Mediterranean. Swim laps or just float around, taking in the sea air and sun-kissed sands. Depending on the time of day, you may find the pool busy with families or school groups. During the cooler months, a swim at a Sydney Harbour rockpool is even more enjoyable, when you can enjoy the picture postcard harbour views and watch icebergs pass by in the distance.

The South Curl Curl rockpool is a family favourite, with the 50m tidal flow saltwater pool divided into a shallow splash area for kids and a more adult-friendly spot at low tide. On the opposite end of this pretty stretch of sand is the North Curl Curl rockpool, and both can be easily reached by walking along the coastal walk at high tide.

Another great option for inner-Sydney swimmers is Prince Alfred Park pool, a slice of summer perched between Surry Hills and Redfern. The 50-metre pool is always a perfect jump-right-in temperature, and the buttercup yellow umbrellas add to the Riviera ambience. There are even a couple of green lawns for lounging, and dogs on leash are welcome.

The beauty of concrete is that it can be used to create an infinite number of designs. Unlike fiberglass or vinyl-lined pools, this versatile material can be shaped into all manner of shapes and sizes. It can be paved with various finishes and coping options, and you can personalize it with patterns and colours that suit your tastes and aesthetics. This level of flexibility enables you to find the perfect pool for your yard and your budget, and ensures that the design will grow with you, as your preferences evolve over time. It is this durability that makes concrete pools the most popular choice for homeowners. Its inherent strength means that concrete pools can withstand shifts in soil, extreme weather conditions, and the weight of the water itself. This translates into a longer lifespan and lower maintenance costs than pools made from other materials.
