The Singapore Prize is a biennial award in recognition of outstanding published works by writers from Singapore, in any of the four official languages: Chinese, English, Malay, or Tamil. Singapore’s former diplomat Kishore Mahbubani is the chair of the prize’s five-member jury panel, and set up the award in 2014. He has described the 21st century as the Asian century, and says that the biggest challenge for Singapore in this era is not economic but building a national identity through a strong sense of history.
